New London Public Schools, transitioning to the state’s only all-magnet school district, takes pride in providing a safe, encouraging learning environment where all students are offered a world-class education. Our students are happy to be here and appreciate the encouraging environment our staff upholds for them every day. We support all of our students in their journey through our schools and strive to prepare them for successful lives as adults by offering learning opportunities unmatched by other school districts.

The Science and Technology Magnet High School of Southeastern Connecticut (STMHS), Winthrop STEM Elementary Magnet School and Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School, are designated as inter-district magnet schools and are open to students residing in all Connecticut towns. Winthrop STEM Elementary Magnet School, Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School, and STMHS attract elementary and high school students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and Visual and Performing Arts.

Jennings Elementary School is considered an intra-district-magnet school and is only open to students residing in New London. In addition to our magnet schools, the district also includes New London High School and Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School, which serve New London students at this time.

Expanded Learning Time (ELT) at Winthrop STEM Elementary Magnet School and Jennings Elementary School means that students spend more time in school, deepening their interests through experiential workshops and classes led by our many community partners whose efforts inside the classroom greatly support the curriculum as New London Public Schools transitions to an all-magnet school district.

Students enrolled in New London’s Magnet Schools have more chances to discover their passions through partnerships with organizations including Mitchell College, Connecticut College, Three Rivers Community College, the United States Coast Guard Academy, Pfizer Inc., General Dynamics Electric Boat, Mystic Aquarium and more.

All of New London’s public elementary schools offer full-day kindergarten programs and a before and after school child care program is also available.
