2019 Grand List Exemption & Personal Property Filing Notice

Pursuant to CGS Section12-71(g) any unregistered vehicle or vehicle with out-of-state plates located within the city is taxable as personal property. If a vehicle has been discovered on your property that is not registered with the state of Connecticut DMV you will be required to fill out a personal property declaration form listing the vehicle's make, model, vin# and year so that it's value can be accurately assessed. If you no longer have this vehicle please provide the assessor's office with documentation regarding the vehicle's disposition and the date of disposal.

Effective Oct 1st 2008 - An assessment cap of $500 is allowed , pursuant to CGS Section 56 of PA 08-150 which amends subsection (b) of 12-71, for a "motor vehicle twenty years old or older which is being preserved because of historic interest and which is not altered or modified from the original manufacturer's specifications." Annual application stating that modifications have not been made to the older vehicle must be made by January 31st.

2019 Income and Expense Forms are due by June 1, 2019.  Any owner of rental real property who fails to file this form by the deadline or files an incomplete or false form with intent to defraud, shall be subject to a penalty assessment equal to a TEN PERCENT (10%) INCREASE in the assessed value of such property.

All address changes must be made in writing to the Assessor's office and contain an owner's signature. Address Change Form
