"America's hope for the future lies in the youth of today." This philosophy led the Boy Scouts of America to develop the Explorer Program. Together with the Boy Scouts the New London Police Department developed the New London Police Explorer program.
 | The New London Police Explorer Post #911 is sponsored by the New London Police Department as a community based policing program. This program is designed to educate and involve youth in police operations, to build mutual understanding and to interest them in possible law enforcement careers.
Through involvement, the Explorer program establishes an awareness of the complexities of police service, and assist in various community service and crime prevention programs. The Explorers participate in many community functions, such as Sailfest, The Neighborhood Alliance, PBA youth events and the American Cancer.

Our Explorer post has experienced police officers and other law enforcement professionals as advisors to instruct and guide the Explorers through the various duties of the police and community service. In addition, the Explorers are used as significant positive role models for younger children in at-risk locations, such as our housing projects.
Membership is open to youth of the New London area, who are between the ages of 14-21. The New London Police Explorer Post currently has 9 active members. We meet twice a month for training and additional community service events are scheduled.
