Land Records
Land records pertaining to property located in the City of New London, are recorded in our office. CONNECTICUT DOES NOT HAVE COUNTY RECORDING OF LAND RECORDS OR COUNTY FORM OF GOVERNMENT. All documents are recorded in the city or town in which the property is located. Our records include property transfers, mortgages, liens, maps, release of mortgages and liens, etcetera.
New London's Land Records date back to the mid 1600's. Our index is computerized from 1969 forward. If you have the property address, but do not know who owns the property, the Assessor's office will assist you. Their office will supply you with a "field card", indicating the Volume and Page of the recorded deed, as well as the current owner's name. We will then show you how to access the information you are looking for. The Assessor's office is located on the second floor of City Hall in room number 7. They can be reached at (860)447-5216.
Our vault hours are 8:30 AM - 3:50 PM. The last recording of the day must be completed by 3:45 PM. Any document presented after that time will be recorded the following morning.
The fee for document recording is $53.00 for the first page, and $5.00 for each additional page of the document. An additional $2.00 is charged for deeds that have conveyance tax (State Form OP-236). New London's conveyance tax fee is the same as the State of Connecticut, .005%. The fee for recording Mylar maps is $10.00 and $15.00 for Subdivision maps. Copies of Land Records are $1.00 per page. There is a $2.00 charge for certification. As of October 1, 2009, the fee for use of hand-held scanner will increase from $10.00 to $20.00 per day. The State of Connecticut sets the fees for the above. |
